Join Liane Whittum on a two day workshop painting the still life. This intensive workshop will cover the process setting up the still life to create a strong composition with lighting that tells a story. Students will spend time learning how to work with perishable subject matter, how to approach texture and elements like glass and metal, and breaking up an “alla prima” painting into multiple sessions. Liane will share her techniques and guide students in mark making with a strong emphasis on edge quality.
Day one will consist of a brief presentation and an all prima painting demonstration by Liane. Students will then work on creating a still life set up utilizing information from the presentation and begin painting from life. Liane will also give a demonstration on how to mount a painting done on loose linen to a panel.
On day two Liane will offer one on one support to students while we continue with our paintings and reveal the mounted linen painting. She will then go over the process of creating a still life painting using a photograph versus painting from life.
Artists at any stage of their development are welcome. However, the participating artist should have an understanding of and be comfortable with oil paints.
